&E Developing Dark Comedy 'Clan' Based

Steve Blackman to write, exec produce the hourlong show

A&E is developing a Stateside version of Belgian TV series “Clan” with eOne and scribe Steve Blackman.

A co-production between A+E Studios and eOne, “Clan” centers on the Murphy girls, five sisters who made a blood pact to always protect each other from harm. But now the sisters are separated by a marriage and have been driven apart by a sadistic brother-in-law.  The Murphy sisters plot to kill him and succeed, but no murder is perfect, as they inadvertently expose themselves to criminal elements well beyond their league.

Hourlong project currently has a script deal with the cabler, and Caviar, the company behind the Belgian version of “Clan,” will be involved with the A&E project.

Blackman, who is repped by UTA, is penning the American iteration of “Clan,” and will exec produce. eOne’s exec veep of U.S. scripted TV Michael Rosenberg and director of development Adam Blumberg will oversee the project on behalf of the studio.

Blackman served as co-showrunner of ABC’s “Private Practice.” In addition to his work on the Alphabet drama, Blackman penned and produced episodes of “Bones,” and is involved with FX’s forthcoming mini “Fargo.”

And thus continues the descent into insignificance of the US TV industry…

“Lord, no, we won’t get original shows made” is the collective cry coming from the networks. “Let’s do a remake of a Belgian show nobody’s heard of and claim it has pre-awareness”…

How sad and actually borderline disgusting.

Steve Balckman is the real deal. One of the most talented, professional and genuine people you’ll ever meet or work with. Well deserved and this will be a great show!

    • Rena Moretti says:

Is it really necessary for that gentleman’s PR people to plant ridiculously laudatory comments?

DO you really think he’s thrilled to be doing a remake if he has any creative bone in his body?
