Adam Scott’s ‘Greatest Event in Television History’ Takes on ‘Too Close for Comfort’

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery: “The Greatest Event in Television History,” Adam Scott’s lampooning of TV shows that time often forgets, premiered Thursday night on Adult Swim with a send up of the 1980s sitcom “Too Close for Comfort.”

In the bit, Scott and other comedic actors like Kathryn Hahn and Catherine O’Hara show their “behind the scenes” journey of recreating the opening credits of the Ted Knight sitcom.

Past iterations of Scott’s reenactments have focused on shows “Simon & Simon” (in which Scott co-starred with Jon Hamm) and “Hart to Hart” (where Scott is joined by his “Parks and Recreation” wife, Amy Poehler). But don’t worry if you can’t recall the actual TV show “Too Close for Comfort” — when asked for comment on this story, Variety TV critic Brian Lowry  responded that, while he never watched the show, he thinks his mother did.

Scott will release his next “Greatest Event” installment at midnight on January 23.
