Project is the first to emerge from Fogelman's deal with ABC Studios

ABC has ordered a pilot for Dan Fogelman’s “Galavant,” a musical comedy fairytale.

Project, to be produced by ABC Studios, centers on handsome Prince Galavant and his quest for revenge over the king who stole his one true love. The musical comedy is written by Fogelman, who will exec produce alongside Alan Menken, who will pen the music.

Glenn Slater is expected to write the lyrics for the program, and will also executive produce.

Fogelman created and pens ABC comedy “The Neighbors.” “Galavant” marks a re-teaming for Fogelman, Menken and Slater, who collaborated on a musical episode of “The Neighbors” during the show’s first season.

“Galavant” falls under Fogelman’s pact with ABC Studios. Along with “The Neighbors,” Fogelman’s credits include feature films “Crazy, Stupid, Love.,” “Tangled” and “Cars.”
