LONDON — Naomi Campbell, the supermodel and businesswoman, is to star in a U.K. version of reality skein “The Face.”
Show, a co-production between Elisabeth Murdoch’s Shine and Princess, has been greenlit by BSkyB female-skewed web Sky Living.
As part of the deal, Sky Living gets exclusive rights to the original eight-part U.S. series of “The Face,” produced by Shine America for the Oxygen web.
The U.S. show is hosted by photographer Nigel Barker with mentors Campbell, Coco Rocha and Karolina Kurkova.
“The Face” features models and their famous mentors competing to find out who has what it takes to become the face of a world-renowned brand.
Over eight weeks the models and their teams compete in fashion industry challenges.
Campbell will lead one of the three teams, with the other two mentors to be announced soon.
She said: “I’m looking for contestants who have the whole package — a beautiful face, great body, unique look, confidence, drive and passion, the ability to change and transform a willingness to follow direction, and, above all, a strong work ethic.”
Sky Living is beefing up its offering under the guidance of new channel director, Antonia Hurford-Jones.
Hurford-Jones said: “With the continued success of ‘Britain & Ireland’s Next Top Model’ we know this is a genre our viewers already love and I’m delighted to be able to give them more of that with ‘The Face.’ ”
Recently BSkyB’s content topper, Sophie Turner Laing, acknowledged that Sky Living remained work in progress.
She said: “To be honest, Living has been more challenging that we thought it was going to be.
“We have a lot of learning to do in terms of finding out what our customers want from Living.”
Shine Intl. will distribute the U.K. version of “The Face.”
