AMC/Sundance Channel Global and DirecTV Latin America are pairing to launch Sundance Channel in seven Latin American countries in September, underlining the growing importance of the LatAm market for North American companies.
The channel will bow in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela. Following the fall launch, the net will be made available for distribution to pay-TV operators across the region.
DirecTV will also launch a Portuguese-language channel for subscribers in Brazil at a later date.
Sundance Channel will be available to DirecTV subscribers on the Oro package, one of the operator’s tiers. The channel will be a Spanish-language 24/7 linear network featuring first run original drama and a selection of indie pics and documentaries that cater to the region.
In the past few months, the channel has expanded its global footprint, including launches in Belgium, France, Poland and the Philippines. Ed Palluth, EVP Distribution, AMC/Sundance Channel Global, will oversee the net’s further distribution throughout Latin America.
