‘The Office’ Finale: Emmy-nominated Hour Had to Shed Some Funny Scenes

Ever had a hard time leaving a job you love? Imagine being Greg Daniels. The “Office” creator was tasked with penning the show’s finale and finding suitable endings for these beloved characters.

“These were characters I really cared about and, for some reason, I felt really confident on what was the right ending for all of them,” he says. While the hour-long finale included treats like cameos from the show’s writers, Daniels was sad he had to cut funny scenes like Angela Kinsey’s sourpuss talking of learning to smile. “It was a lot longer.” That’s what she said.

    So will these deleted scenes be available on DVD for the fans to view? Any other scenes with Michael Scott?

    I really enjoyed the finale, counter to expectations. The show had fallen apart a bit in the last season, with no emotional center and without the gravitational pull of Carrell. But Daniels did a great job of wrapping up the storylines in satisfying ways, while keeping it funny. I think show finales are really hard to pull off, cheers Greg!
