Considering the quantity of rock star photos adorning the Sunset Marquis’ walls during normal business hours, it only made sense that the hotel’s 50th anniversary party should be a thoroughly tuneful affair.

Steven Tyler and Julian Lennon helped ring in the hotel’s semi-centennial on Nov. 16, singing beside a giant birthday cake, while Lemonhead Evan Dando and the Doors’ Robby Krieger jammed on the Rolling Stones’ “Dead Flowers” at the other end of the hotel grounds.

Two-thirds of the Jonas Brothers, Kevin Jonas and Joe Jonas, were spotted at the Charity Poker Tournament, and proceeds from the event were donated to MusiCares.

Liz Phair, Taylor Dayne and Whoopi Goldberg also circulated through the bash’s various areas, each stocked with plenty of spare acoustic guitars in case a moment of inspiration should strike.

Would have loved to see Julian and Steven sharing the stage- I’m sure the air was simply electric!! As an aside, I am so glad to see Julian getting some long overdue attention not only for his immense musical talents and gifted photography, but also for the tremendous amount of philanthropic work he is committed to. Two of my favorite musicians in one place- who could ask for more? Oh, I know- being there to experience it myself! ;)

  3. Sounds like it was a lovely affair… What a great night it must have been with excellent musicians….
Steven Tyler and the son of John Lennon, Julian, together on the same stage. Who would have thought it so many years ago. What do you think about that one Pop, watching down from above? I’m sure it was a proud moment for many……Imagine…. <3
