Wim Wenders’ Neue Road Movies and Tel Aviv-based sales outfit Cinephil have closed a slew of pre-sale deals for “Cathedrals of Culture,” a 3D TV series to be helmed by some of Europe’s leading film directors.
Uniting documentary and feature filmmakers Wenders (“Pina”), James Marsh (“Man on Wire”) Michael Glawogger (“Whores’ Glory”) and Michael Madsen (“Into Eternity”), “Cathedrals of Culture” explores how buildings reflect culture and mirror society.
The production has pre-sold to Arte and RBB in Germany, the Danish Broadcasting Corp., Sky 3D in Italy, Canal Plus for Spain and Poland, RTV Slovenija in Slovenia, Slovakia’s RTVS, YES in Israel and Australia’s SBS.
Wenders, who is also exec producing, will helm an installment on the Berlin Philharmonic building; Marsh looks at the St. Pancras Railway Station in London; Glawogger explores the National Library in St. Petersburg, Russia, while Danish director Madsen examines Halden Prison in Norway.
Berlin-based Brazilian helmer Karim Ainouz is in negotiations to direct an episode, with a sixth filmmaker to be announced shortly.
The series, consisting of six 30-minute episodes, will be available in 3D and 2D.
Arte, the production’s main partner, will broadcast the project simultaneously in 3D and 2D in 2014.
