Actress-comedian presents lifetime achievement kudo to Linda Bloodworth-Thomason

Not to be bogged down by a teleprompter, actress-comedian Lily Tomlin had the crowd of the 9th annual GLSEN Respect Awards rolling as she presented the lifetime achievement kudo to her friend and colleague Linda Bloodworth-Thomason on Oct. 18.

Tomlin, who is famous for her witty adlibs, made sure to pay herself several compliments during the introduction joking, “When Linda asked me to do this, she had no idea what an impoverished ego I had.”

But Tomlin spent equal time championing Bloodworth-Thomason as a journalist, advocate and filmmaker. Bloodworth-Thomason recently directed the documentary “Bridegroom,” which won the audience award at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year.

“That’s why she’s come here tonight, with wrecking ball to claim what is hers,” Tomlin said, referring to Bloodworth-Thomason’s deserved recognition.

Also receiving an award on behalf of chairman kudo honoree Lionsgate was Rob Friedman. Jim Parsons and his partner Todd Spiewak received the org’s inspiration award, which was presented by Parsons’ “The Big Bang Theory” co-star Mayim Bialik.
