NBC dominates timeslot; demo up 28% to six-year high

The Golden Globes on NBC hit a six-year ratings high Sunday, dominating its timeslot and surging nearly 30% above last year among young adults.

Likely boosted by buzz surrounding the Academy Awards nominations just a few days earlier, the “70th Annual Golden Globe Awards” averaged a 6.4 rating in adults 18-49 and 19.7 million viewers overall — up 28% in the demo and 17% in total viewers vs. last year. It’s the top scores in both categories for the Globes since the 2007 telecast (on a Monday) netted a 6.5 in the demo and a little over 20 million viewers overall.

Sunday’s “Golden Globes” stands as the season’s No. 1 awards show, ahead of ABC’s “CMA Awards,” “Primetime Emmy Awards” and “American Music Awards” as well as CBS’ “People’s Choice Awards.”

Demo and total viewership data weren’t available Monday for the “Golden Globes Red Carpet Special 2013″ from 7 to 8 p.m., but it averaged a 4.8 household rating/7 share in the overnights, up 26% from last year’s 3.8/6,

On the competition Sunday, ABC’s dramas “Once Upon a Time” (2.8/7 in 18-49, 8.1 million viewers overall) and “Revenge” (2.0/4 in 18-49, 6.1 million viewers overall) were down from their winter premieres of last week and near series lows for originals.

CBS had a big NFL overrun, so its numbers are subject to revision. From 9 to 11 in the prelims, “The Good Wife” averaged a 1.9/4 in 18-49 and 10.0 million viewers overall — nearly catching “Revenge” in the 18-49 demo — and “The Mentalist” followed with a 2.0/5 in the demo and 10.4 million viewers overall.

Fox was led by original episodes of and “Family Guy” (3.1/7 in 18-49, 5.9 million viewers overall), “The Simpsons” (2.46 in 18-49, 5.1 million viewers overall) and “American Dad” (2.4/5 in 18-49, 4.8 million viewers overall).
