Kudofest to coincide with Electric Daisy Carnival

Dick Clark Prods. and electronic dance music promoter Insomniac are partnering to produce an EDM awards show next year, the two companies announced June 19 at the EDM Biz industry conference in Las Vegas.

Details of the event have yet to be hammered out, though its inaugural incarnation will take place next summer in Vegas, timed to coincide with Insomniac’s massive Electric Daisy Carnival fest, which typically takes place in the city in June. DCP also produces the Golden Globes, the American Music Awards and the Academy of Country Music Awards.

DCP prexy Allen Shapiro tells Variety that his company “has been following EDM for some time now, because it’s impossible not to notice the impact it’s having,” though negotiations with Insomniac only started three months ago.

While the kudofest has yet to be given a name or a broadcast destination, Shapiro says DCP will “examine all distribution opportunities,” whether they be network television, cable or online.

Insomniac’s founder and CEO Pasquale Rotella noted in a statement: “Creating an award show focused on all the creative components that contribute to the success of dance music (music, art, production and lighting) has been a dream of mine for years … I’m confident that our partnership will create an event that is focused on recognizing creativity without politics, and that it will celebrate all the elements that go into making dance music such a beautiful experience for the fans.”
