Allen Lanier, one of the founding members of the band Blue Oyster Cult, has died at the age of 67, the band announced on their Facebook page.

“We have extremely sad news to report,” the post read. “We’ve lost our friend and bandmate Allen Lanier. Allen succumbed to complications from C.O.P.D. He is survived by his wife Dory, sister Mary Anne and mother Martha.”

“C.O.P.D.” refers to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

The post concluded by saying “DFTR sweet man. We love you and miss you,” a reference to the band’s most famous song, “Don’t Fear the Reaper.”

Maybe God needed another master at the keyboard so Jon Lord wasn’t quite so lonely. He was an absolute master of keyboard and guitar. I count myself blessed for being able to see him play as many times as I got to, you will be deeply missed by those of us that knew and respected this underrated band.
