33rd Brit Awards celebrate another year of music
The 33rd Brit Awards celebrated another year of music on Wednesday with Justin Timberlake rocking his U.K. return in a dapper pompadour and shiny suit, for his comeback perf of new single “Mirrors.”
One Direction was on the scene, bowing its charity mashup of Blondie’s “One Way or Another” and the Undertones’ “Teenage Kicks,” but even London’s colossal O2 dome wasn’t large enough to contain the buzz around exes Harry Styles and Taylor Swift.
A Swift steal of the boy-band’s thunder occurred with her powerhouse version of “I Knew You Were Trouble,” winking at her Styles drama by coming out in a white wedding dress — and ripping it off mid-song.
The Brits rewarded its native folk stars with Ben Howard picking up a Brit duo, along with Mumford & Sons bagging a pair. Marcus Mumford joked about the group’s partying tactic: “Celebrating with a few high fives!”
The night, however, belonged to Emeli Sande, sweeping the kudofest before closing the night in style with a rousing rendition of “Clown.” At which point Sande said she was “ready to party hard,” and guests obeyed, dispersing to the plethora of label apres fetes.
