Internet distribution platform Chill has acquired VOD streaming rights to Doug Benson’s comedy documentary “The Greatest Movie Ever Rolled.”
Pic stars Benson, the comedian and marijuana aficionado behind 2007′s “Super High Me” and the Doug Loves Movies podcast.
Pic follows Benson and his friend Graham Elwood on tour, looking at life on the road for a comic.
“Rolled,” directed by Ryan Polito and produced by Sharon Everitt Polito and Bruce Smith, will be available on Chill March 11.
“We call this internet-first release the social window, from the moment a film is first available fans can easily share and watch it from anywhere in the world,” said Marc Hustvedt, head of entertainment at Chill.
Brian Norgard and Daniel Gould founded Chill with venture funding from partners including Kleiner Perkins and WME. The company works with a number of comedians, including Maria Bamford, for whom the site recently released “Special Special Special.”
Chill has likely gotten a boost from the success of comedians like Louis C.K., Aziz Ansari and Jim Gaffigan selling their product directly to fans, and offers a way for artists to “bundle” other goodies – like t-shirts and other fan merchandise – in with their video content for a separate price.
