Kanter, who was previously senior veep/g.m., is in charge of unifying the content of Disney Junior worldwide. The brand has hit new highs as a programming block on Disney Junior while also thriving as a separate network, ranking No. 1 among kids 2-5 for 16 consecutive weeks. “Sofia the First,” “Doc McStuffins,” “Jake and the Never Land Pirates” and “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” are among the key shows.
“Nancy’s vision for Disney Junior has transformed it into a creative powerhouse for our youngest viewers and their parents,” said Disney Channels Worldwide prexy/chief creative officer Gary Marsh, to whom Kanter reports, “adding content that has captivated millions of new viewers — and simultaneously creating vibrant new opportunities for every other line of business at the Walt Disney Company.”
The upcoming programming slate for Disney Junior includes the animated “Sheriff Callie’s Wild West” with Mandy Moore and “The 7D,” a contemporary, comedic take on the Seven Dwarfs.
Kanter joined Disney Channel in 2001.
