“Sacrifice” follows four teenagers from a small Texas town as they come face-to-face with their own consciences after a tragic accident. Mulroney will play the father of one of the boys, with Austin Abrams cast as an insecure 15 year old devoted to his older brother.
Mulroney’s attachment was announced Thursday at the San Francisco Film Festival. JuntoBox Films, which touts itself as a collaborative film studio for filmmakers and fans, debuted at the 2012 South by Southwest Festival with Forest Whitaker as co-chair and pledged to greenlight five films during the following year.
“Dermot Mulroney has a long history with out-of-the box, independent films and we couldn’t be more excited for him to play the role of Justin in ‘Sacrifice,’ our first feature,” said Nina Yang Bongiovi, chief operating officer. “As our community continues to grow, we’re transitioning our greenlight schedule to follow a more genre-driven format which we feel will strengthen our slate of microbudget independent films across all major categories.”
JuntoBox is also prepping “Passenger,” “Sharon is Caring” and “Anthem.”
Mulroney is in indie thriller “Careful What You Wish For,” opposite Nick Jonas and Isabel Lucas, and is co-starring in the upcoming “August: Osage County” with Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts. Abrams appeared in “Gangster Squad” and “Kings of Summer.”
Mulroney is repped by WME. Abrams is repped by APA, Industry Entertainment, Felker Toczek Gellman Suddleson.
