The Berlinale, which ran Feb. 7 to 17, sold 303,077 tickets, up 1.2% from last year’s 299,362.
Despite the current economic situation, fest organizers reported industry participation remained constant: nearly 19,630 accredited visitors from 124 countries, including 3,694 journos.
The European Film Market also boasted a greater number of exhibitors, who saw brisk sales for competition films including Richard Linklater’s “Before Midnight,” Chilean Sebastian Lelio’s “Gloria” (which won a Silver Bear for actress Paulina Garcia), and Guillaume Nicloux’s French drama “The Nun,” as well as pics from other fest sections, such as Belgian Felix Van Groeningen’s Panorama player “The Broken Circle Breakdown.”
Some 400 films screened at the fest, while more than double that number — 816 films — unspooled at the EFM, including nearly 600 market premieres. More than 8,000 participants from 95 countries attended the EFM.
