Friedman's production won Critics' Circle Award

LONDON — The Menier Chocolate Factory production of Stephen Sondheim and George Furth’s “Merrily We Roll Along” will transfer to the West End’s Harold Pinter Theater from April 23.

Directed by Maria Friedman in her helming debut, the production won the 2013 Critics’ Circle Award for best musical. The cast led by Mark Umbers, Jenna Russell (Tony-nommed for “Sunday in the Park with George”) and Damian Humbley with musical direction by Catherine Jayes, design by Olivier-winner Soutra Gilmour and lighting by David Hersey.

Produced in the West End by Chocolate Factory Productions, Bob Bartner, Scott M. Delman, Just for Laughs Theatricals, Tanya Link, Neal Street Productions and Sonia Friedman Productions, this will be the first time the tuner has had a West End berth. Hal Prince’s original 1981 production — a now legendary 16-perf flop — never came to Blighty. Michael Grandage’s 2000 Donmar Warehouse production, despite winning four Oliviers including best new musical, didn’t transfer.
