Tom Hanks Has Broadway Feeling ‘Lucky’

Lucky Guy

Spring rookie adds zest to box office

Lucky Guy” appears to be holding a winning ticket on Broadway, with the Tom Hanks starrer raking in an impressive $367,156 from its first two preview perfs in Week 40 (Feb. 25-March 3).

The take for two shows exceeded the gross potential for the Broadhurst Theater — meaning plenty of premium-priced tickets sold. And advance sales for the play, said to be north of $9 million, indicate Hanks might join the small pantheon of Hollywood stars who burn up the legit B.O., a la Hugh Jackman, Denzel Washington and Julia Roberts.

Though more shows entered the Rialto mix, the majority declined, so overall attendance upticked only marginally, to 192,215. Cume hit $17.2 million for the 24 shows, a bit more than the $16.9 million posted during the same frame last year for 27.

The 20 musicals grossed $15,211,527 for 88.5% of the Broadway total, with attendance of 168,168 and an average paid admission of $90.45.

The four plays grossed $1,981,168 for 11.5% of the Broadway total, with attendance of 24,047 and an average paid admission of $82.39.
