Nominees to be named in April prior to May ceremony

The 58th Drama Desk Awards has set its dates, with the org announcing nominees in April prior to a May ceremony.

The Drama Desks are among the array of Gotham legit kudos that are handed out in spring at the end of the theater season. Unlike the Tonys, which only consider Broadway fare eligible for awards, the Drama Desks pool Rialto, Off Broadway and Off Off Broadway titles into the same competitive categories.

Voting membership is made up of critics, journos, editors and publishers at outlets that cover theater.

For this year’s awards, John Lloyd Young (“Jersey Boys”) and Jan Maxwell (“Follies”) have been tapped to announce the noms April 26 at theater district venue 54 Below. Awards show, to be written by Bill Rosefield and helmed by Jack Cummings III (the a.d. of Off Broadway’s Transport Group), is set for May 19 at Town Hall in midtown.

Joey Parnes Prods. produces and manages the ceremony, with Gretchen Shugart, CEO of Theatermania, as exec producer. Gotham-based legit website Theatermania took over the Drama Desks last year.
