Actress returns to the role that won her a Tony in 2009

Angela Lansbury will reprise her Tony-winning turn as dotty psychic Madame Arcati in Noel Coward’s “Blithe Spirit” on the West End this spring.

Lansbury first appeared in the comedy in the 2009 Broadway staging helmed by Michael Blakemore (“Noises Off,” “Kiss Me Kate”), who will direct the show in London as well. Janie Dee and Charles Edwards, who were not in the U.S. incarnation, also will star on the West End. Designer Simon Higlett also is a new addition for this production.

Lee Dean leads a producing team that includes Jeffrey Richards, Jerry Frankel and Steve Traxler – who produced the show on Broadway – as well as John Frost and Charles Diamond. Richards and Frankel have a busy spring ahead of them, also producing tuner “The Bridges of Madison County” and Bryan Cranston starrer “All the Way” on the Rialto.

“Blithe Spirit” begins previews March 1 ahead of a March 18 opening night at London’s Gielgud Theater.
