Tom Hanks starrer 'Lucky Guy' also had strong ticket sales

Lucky Guy,” the Tom Hanks starrer that recently began perfs on Broadway, pulled in more than $1 million from just seven perfs in Week 41 (March 4-10), but girl power, from young-femme magnets “Cinderella,” “Annie” and “Matilda,” had more of an effect on the B.O.

“Cinderella” ($1,107,158) jumped above the $1 million mark, fueled by the strength of the title, affection for the Rodgers and Hammerstein score, and media attention over its opening, which yielded a mixed bag of reviews.

Meanwhile, “Matilda” ($634,789 and 96% capacity auds for six previews), the much-lauded Brit hit based on the Roald Dahl tale, debuted with a notably robust tally for a new musical with a title that, in terms of name recognition among American auds, doesn’t hold a candle to “Cinderella” or “Annie.”

Overall Broadway attendance was up only about 4,500 to 196,604, but sales increased $1.1 million to $18.1 million for the 23 shows running.

The 18 musicals grossed $15,322,415 for 84.7% of the Broadway total, with attendance of 163,309 and an average paid admission of $93.82.

The five plays grossed $2,763,168 for 15.3% of the Broadway total, with attendance of 33,295 and an average paid admission of $82.99.
