Helmer Bryan Singer recruits 'Untouchables' star

PARIS — “The Intouchables” star Omar Sy has joined the cast of “X-Men: Days of Future Past.”

Sy’s casting was announced by helmer Bryan Singer via Twitter on Saturday. Singer wrote he was “thrilled to welcome the brilliant Omar Sy from the amazing film ‘The Intouchables’ to the cast of ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past.’ ”

Sy will star opposite Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Hugh Jackman and Ellen Page.

The 20th Century Fox pic is now in pre-production and is due to start lensing next month for an expected delivery in July 2014. Bad Hat Harry Prods., Donners’ Company, and Marvel Studios are producing.

It will be Sy’s first English-language role. The French thesp, who moved to Los Angeles last summer, delivered a breakthrough performance in Eric Toledano and Olivier Nakache’s blockbuster dramedy “The Intouchables,” which earned him a Cesar for best actor in France’s film awards and a Golden Globe nomination. It was released Stateside by The Weinstein Company.

Sy is also in talks to star in TWC’s “Chef,” as is Bradley Cooper.
