Women in Animation Board

Margaret Dean, director of production for Mattel’s Playground Productions and Kristy Scanlan, VP of business development, animation and games at Technicolor have been tapped as co-presidents of the newly restructured Women in Animation, the professional, non-profit org for women involved in any aspect of the animation industry. As part of its restructuring, the org has created an executive committee, a board of directors and an advisory committee.

“It is our goal to engage WIA members through a variety of online and offline events, small collegial gatherings and large networking events in an effort to create new opportunities of connection and inspiration,” Scanlan (pictured at left) and Dean (at right) said in a joint statement. “We understand how broad the animation market is today from games to Web to the traditional film mediums.”

In addition to Dean and Scanlan, the executive committee includes “Robot Chicken” line producer Barbara Cimity as treasurer and Walt Disney Animation director of talent development and recruitment Dawn Rivera-Ernster as secretary. The new board of directors includes the four exec committee members plus Jinko Gotoh (exec producer of “The Little Prince” for Onyx Films) as chair of support, Tracy Campbell (Disney Animation Studios senior manager studio training) as chair of programming, Anna Jordan-Douglass (interactive producer at the Jim Henson Co.) as chair of marketing and Karen Kirkland (exec director, talent outreach & development for Nickelodeon) as chair of member services.

DreamWorks Animation producer Bonnie Arnold is serving as chair of WIA’s advisory committee, which also includes Nickelodeon’s senior VP of animation development Jenna Boyd, Disney Animation’s VP of human resources and production planning Ann Le Cam, Shut Up! Cartoons’ production and programming exec and Team TO L.A. rep Lenora Hume and VP content acquisitions and co-productions of Cartoon Network and Boomerang Adina Pitt, in addition to retiring WIA co-prexies Rita Street and Jan Nagel.
