Warner Bros. Picks Up Reese Witherspoon-Robert De Niro Comedy ‘The Intern’

Production starting early next year

Warner Bros has acquired worldwide distribution rights to indie comedy “The Intern,” starring Reese Witherspoon and Robert De Niro.

The project, with Nancy Meyers directing from her own script, began selling at the American Film Market via Lotus Entertainment. CAA packaged the project. Production will begin early next year.

Meyers will produce with Scott Rudin.

Witherspoon will portray the founder of a successful fashion website who’s assigned senior intern, played by De Niro,  who’s a widower who ran his own successful business before retiring.

Meyers was attached to direct the project when it was at Paramount, where the film was eventually put into turnaround.

The Deadline.com site first reported the news.
