‘Walesa. Man Of Hope’ Becomes Poland’s Oscar Candidate

Wieckiewicz stars as Solidarity founder

Poland has selected Andrzej Wajda’s “Wałęsa. Man of Hope” as the Polish candidate for the Academy Awards in the foreign-language film category.

Robert Więckiewicz stars in the title role as the former dockworker, Solidarity founder and Polish president. The film also stars Agnieszka Grochowska as Danuta Wałęsa and Maria Rosaria Omaggio as Oriana Fallaci.

“Wałęsa. Man of Hope” was produced by Akson Studio, and co-produced by Telewizja Polska SA – Film Agency, Telekomunikacja Polska, Canal+ Poland, Narodowe Centrum Kultury. The film received financial support from the Polish Film Institute.

The deadline for submitting to the foreign-language category is Oct. 1. Nominations will be announced Jan. 16 and the ceremony will be held March 2 at the Dolby Theater.
