Casino has been refurbished, 150-seat screening room has been added on the ground floor

Expect some improved infrastructure at the upcoming 70th Venice Film Festival, and more new facilities in the near future.

The Casino, where press conferences are currently held, has been refurbished and a 150-seat screening room has been added on the ground floor, with plans for a new 500-seat venue on the third floor “hopefully by next year,” said Venice topper Alberto Barbera.

Also, the Hotel Excelsior, the fest’s main hub, has been given a major makeover, completed in April.
During the fest plans will be unveiled for a new building, comprising another screening room and market facilities, to be built next to the Casino.

Like last year, the Lido fest will be a lean affair, with 18 pics in competition, 18 in the Horizons sidebar, plus some out-of-competish entries and Venice Classics.

Venice will run Aug. 28-Sept. 7.
