Peckham on board to follow up Aaron Cross character

Universal is moving forward a fifth iteration of “The Bourne Identity” franchise, tapping Anthony Peckham to write the script to the next movie.

The story will center on Aaron Cross, the black ops character introduced by Jeremy Renner in 2012’s “The Bourne Legacy.”

Frank Marshall and Captivate Entertainment’s Ben Smith and Jeffrey Weiner are on board to produce the fifth “Bourne.” Marshall also produced “The Bourne Legacy,” which was directed by Tony Gilroy.

Matt Damon, who portrayed Jason Bourne in the first three films, indicated earlier this year that he would not return to the franchise unless Paul Greengrass was directing. Greengrass directed the second and third films.

Jason Bourne is based on the character created by novelist Robert Ludlum. “The Bourne Legacy” grossed $276 million worldwide.

Peckham’s credits include “Sherlock Holmes” and “Invictus.” He is repped by WME and Anonymous.

  1. Angelia Almos says:

Yay! So glad there will be more Aaron Cross and crossing fingers Marta Shearing will be with him every step of the way. I love the new spin-off and want more.

  2. No fault of Renner’s, but his BOURNE was a real mess. Too much setup for an established series, albeit to accommodate the change in lead and character. It’s a very smart franchise that has made Universal billions. Why not do it right this time?

  3. The Kingslayer says:

Of course Universal wants to milk this franchise dry because creating original material is forbidden in Hollywood.

  4. Randy Russell says:

They need to bring Matt Damon back, develop a great script, call Paul greengrass and make millions.

    • Exclusionary says:

THANK YOU! If there was a fantastic script it would lure both Greengrass and Damon. I think Universal just doesn’t want to pay them a piece of the back end. Shortsighted to just run the thing into the ground, but the execs probably have golden parachutes anyway, so what do they care?

  5. Rowana says:

How about another “Sherlock Holmes” movie while you’re at it, WB? The fans grow restless. BBC Sherlock is not enough to hold us nor tide us over. We want more RDJ Holmes, please! (Oh, and the news about Bourne is nice. But — PRIORITIES!!!!) – Much love from, The RDJ Sherlock Holmes fandom

  6. Timothy McNeil says:

The last Bourne (Legacy) film was a mess. There is no other way to describe it. I cannot imagine that there is an audience ‘chomping-at-the-bit’ for another dose of that kind of fractured storytelling (see Wrath of the Titans for a studio mistaking box office with audience satisfaction/desire for another film).

  7. harry georgatos says:

It would have been good to have Damon and Renner together in the fifth instalment. Damon has to understand a program such as TREADSTONE would not have been created for just one specialised assassin as it would have produced countless other assassins. For me LEGACY is the best movie in the franchise and Tony Gilroy is a better director then Greengrass!! Greengrass practically ruined his two films with that horrid hand-held shaky camerawork. I feel sorry for patrons sitting up close to the screen with that type of horrendous camera work. Gilroy with LEGACY has come up with a great story that has expanded on the Bourne universe and Damon has to swallow his pride and come aboard for the fifth instalment with Renner!

    • Saywhat? says:

Why does Matt need to “swallow his pride”? He’s making other films and more millions elsewhere. It’s not like he need Bourne the way Bourne needs him.
