Tyke soccer drama ‘Believe’ to get U.K. release

Cox stars as Manchester United manager Matt Busby

LONDON — Trinity Film will handle U.K. distribution on helmer David Scheinmann’s family drama “Believe,” starring Brian Cox as Matt Busby, the iconic manager of the Manchester United soccer team.

The company, which also invested in the film, will release it late summer.

Set in 1984 and inspired by true events, the film follows a gifted 11-year-old soccer player, whose act of petty crime brings him to the attention of Busby, who comes out of retirement to help transform the boy and his friends into championship soccer players. Natascha McElhone, Anne Reid, Philip Jackson and Toby Stephens co-star.

“Pre-teen boys are underserved by films that cater to the No. 1 topic of conversation in their age group: soccer,” said Trinity’s Robin Grbich. “We think that the film’s uplifting and redemptive story make it the perfect film for mothers, fathers and grandparents to watch with their children and grandchildren.”

“Believe” is produced by Ben Timlett for Bill and Ben Prods. and Justin Peyton and Manuela Noble for Wachafilm. Exec producers are Aurelio Landolt, Hans Peter Jaberg and Mark Sandell, with Maggie Monteith of Dignity Film Finance as co-exec producer.

Intandem Films is handling international sales for “Believe” at the EFM in Berlin.
