Tribeca Lines Up Talks for Digital Storytelling Conference

Tribeca Lines Up Talks Digital Storytelling

Speakers include filmmaker and Webby founder Tiffany Shlain and interactive storyteller Lance Weiler

Tribeca Film Institute, the nonprofit org affiliated with the Tribeca Film Festival, has set the slate for its upcoming TFI Interactive conference, a daylong event skedded during the upcoming 2013 fest.

The second annual conference, launching with a keynote from filmmaker (“Connected”) and Webby Award founder Tiffany Shlain, is part of Tribeca’s larger push to broaden the org’s focus beyond film to include new media and cross-platform storytelling. This year’s fest will, for the first time, incorporate such projects into the screening sked as part of a new program called Storyscapes.

The lineup of conference speakers also includes Lance Weiler, the multi-hyphenate cross-platform storyteller whose pics include “The Last Broadcast” and “Head Trauma”; Orlando Bagwell, director of the Ford Foundation’s JustFilms program; as well as staffers at orgs including Kickstarter, Zeega, IDFA DocLab and the National Film Board of Canada. The day will also incorporate screening sessions of the cross-platform projects that were awarded grants from the TFI New Media Fund this year.

Other cross-platform elements at the festival this year include the annual Disruptive Innovation kudos and the Tribeca Online Festival.

Conference is set for April 20 at the IAC Building in downtown Manhattan, with the event open to all fest badgeholders. The 2013 Tribeca Film Festival runs April 17-28.
