Toronto: Woody Allen's 'Fading Gigolo' Finds

Turturro directed, wrote and starred

Woody Allen’s starring vehicle “Fading Gigolo,” directed and written by John Turturro, has found a home with Millenium Entertainment.

The deal for U.S. rights was closed at the Toronto Film Festival on Monday following two screenings over the weekend. ICM partners is selling the comedy for about $3 million.

In it, Allen returns to his Manhattan stomping grounds as a bookstore owner who becomes a pimp for Turturro, convincing him that there’s a fortune to be made in becoming a gigolo. “Fading Gigolo” carries the distinction of being one of the few films in which Allen appears as an actor but does not direct.

Sofia Vergara, Vanessa Paradis and Sharon Stone star as the clients of Turturro’s gigolo character. Liev Schreiber also stars.

Bill Block’s QED Intl. came on board last year to produce and finance. Filming took place last fall in New York City.

Jeffrey Kusama-Hunte produced with QED’s Block and Paul Hanson. site first reported the deal.

    Exactly. You do a disservice to John Turturro . . . unless you want to propagate the perception that Hollywood operates solely on the basis of who’s had the most recent hit.
