Post-apocalyptic thriller stars Amanda Seyfried, Chris Pine and Chiwetel Ejiofor, shoots in November in Atlanta

Producer Michael Benaroya (“Margin Call”) has come on board to finance post-apocalyptic thriller “Z for Zachariah,” shooting in November and starring Chris Pine, Amanda Seyfried and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

He’s at Toronto with a trio of titles screening — “Hateship Loveship,” starring Kristen Wiig and Guy Pearce; Joel Edgerton’s “Felony” and “Kill Your Darlings,” starring Daniel Radcliffe.

Benaroya told Variety that his banner is fully financing “Z for Zachariah” with plans to start shooting in Atlanta in November to have it ready in time for Cannes.

Variety reported that the project had been set up during Cannes with Craig Zobel attached to direct from a script by Nissar Modi. Lotus Entertainment launched sales on “Zachariah” at that market.

Based on the Robert O’Brien novel, the story follows a teenage girl who lives alone on a farm in the only valley with breathable air in the wake of nuclear war. Her world is turned upside down when two strangers wander in from the forest.

Material Pictures’ Tobey Maguire and Matthew Plouffe will produce alongside Zik Zak Filmworks’ Skuli Malmquist, Thor Sigurjonsson and Palomar Pictures’ Joni Sighvatsson.

Benaroya is also a producer with Anthony Katagas on Michael Almereyda’s “Cymbeline” starring Ethan Hawke in a modern-day adaptation of William Shakespeare’s play. Benaroya’s Intl. Film Trust is handling foreign sales on the project, which went into production last month.
