Drea de Matteo has joined the cast of indie thriller “Dark Places,” opposite Charlize Theron and Chloe Grace Moretz.

Exclusive Media made the announcement on the opening day of Toronto, where it is introducing the project to buyers.

The story, based on “Gone Girl” author Gillian Flynn’s novel, centers on a woman who survived the massacre of her family as a young girl and testified against her brother. She’s confronted 25 years later by a secret society obsessed with solving notorious crimes.

“Dark Places” is shooting on location in Shreveport, La., with Gilles Paquet-Brenner directing from his own script. It also stars Christina Hendricks, Corey Stoll, Tye Sheridan and Sterling Jerins.

The film is co-financed by Exclusive Media and Cuatro Plus Films. Producers are Stephane Marsil of Hugo Films, Charlize Theron’s Denver and Delilah Productions partners Beth Kono and AJ Dix; Mandalay’s Cathy Schulman and Matt Rhodes and Exclusive Media’s Matt Jackson.

De Matteo is repped by Untitled Entertainment and The Gersh Agency.
