Knight drama premiered at Venice Film Festival

A24 has acquired North American rights to Steven Knight’s “Locke,” starring Tom Hardy, following its first screening for buyers at the Toronto Film Festival.

It’s the first major acquisition announced at Toronto.

The IM Global drama, which had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, centers on a man attempting to salvage his life over the course of one car ride.

“Locke” was fully financed by IM Global under its Acclaim label and produced by Paul Webster and Guy Heeley of Shoebox Produtions. A24 negotiated the deal with CAA and IM Global, which is also selling international rights.

Leslie Felperin gave “Locke” a strong review for Variety at Venice, saying, “This ingeniously executed study in cinematic minimalism has depth, beauty and poise.”
