Tom Hanks Reveals He Has Type 2 Diabetes

Tom Hanks David Letterman

Tom Hanks was in a joking mood last night on “The Late Show with David Letterman,” even when he told Dave he was recently diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes.

Hanks, who last lost weight recently, explained the diagnosis by saying his doctor told him, “You’ve graduated. You’ve got Type 2 diabetes, young man.”

The “Captain Phillips” star revealed he’d been struggling with high blood sugar for over 20 years and that his condition is “controllable.”

Hanks said his doctor told him he needed to weigh what he did in high school in order to attain complete health, which Hanks countered with, “And I said to her, ‘Well I’m gonna have Type 2 diabetes. There was no way I was gonna weigh what I weighed in high school. I was 96 pounds.”

  1. He's Diabetic.. That's what it's called! says:

Mr. Hanks. You need help. See a drug counselor take some Devils Club berries. Then go to some state where it’s legal to smoke dope. Like Colorado. Having the “Chronic” will cure you of your D-beaties…
Take your lovely wife Rita with you! And that son of yours, Tom Hanks Jr. ! We never hear about Tom Jr. only about Captain Phillips

  2. eqquesz says:

Say bye bye to Sugar, Mr. Hanks

  3. David says:

Sounds like Tom needs to start looking into the paleo lifestyle. Might suit him after Cast Away.

    • I think that Mr Hanks has had so many roles that have been portrayed as a very thin and sickly character and then had to pack on weight with carbs for the next time and again. That could not have been good for his health at all.. Philadelphia, Cast Away…and many more..
