10 Film Directors Who Have Directed Commercials

Hollywood Directors Commercials

'The Wolverine' director James Mangold isn't the only film director to shill for advertisers

Jon Favreau – 5 RPM Gum
Favreau worked on all three “Iron Man” movies, “The Avengers,” “Cowboy & Aliens” and this equally intense 5 RPM gum spot. In it, parkour artist Daniel Ilabaca hops around a simulation of the active fruit gum world, then relaxes in the calmer mint gum world. Currently, Favreau is working on writing and directing his new comedy, “Chef.”

Michael Bay – Victoria’s Secret
Bay has proven he can make just about anything explosive — including lingerie. The “Transformers” director put his signature style to work in this 2009 spot for Victoria’s Secret, showing the ladies with fancy sports cars, knife play, fire breathers and, of course, explosions. Bay is currently shooting the fourth installment in the “Transformers” franchise.

Wes Anderson – American Express
The “Moonrise Kingdom” director is a busy man, and the American Express commercial gives a taste of his hectic life. He directed and starred in the commercial for the credit card’s “My Life” campaign, where Anderson talked to the camera about the adventures on his set. Anderson has directed commercials for companies including Stella Artois, Hyundai and AT&T. Anderson just wrapped shooting comedy “Budapest Hotel.”
