Sony Pictures Classics and Stage 6 Films will theatrically release Indonesia martial-arts sequel “The Raid 2” in the United States.

Sony Classics did not disclose the release date.  Both this and the earlier film star Iko Uwais and were written and directed by Gareth Evans.

The film was produced by Ario Sagantoro for Merantau Films, and Aram Tertzakian and Nate Bolotin of XYZ Films.

“The Raid 2” starts where the first film ended, with Uwais’ character going undercover and infiltrating the ranks of a ruthless Jakarta crime syndicate in order to protect his family and uncover the corruption in his own police force.

“The Raid: Redemption,” which had a $1 million budget, grossed $4.5 million in the U.S. with Sony Classics handling as part of a $15 million worldwide cume.
