“Gatsby,” helmed by Baz Luhrmann, reps one of the few female-targeted pics in a summer full of male-driven action tentpoles. The Leonardo DiCaprio-starrer is poised for nearly $40 million this weekend and is expected to come in at No. 2 behind Disney/Marvel’s “Iron Man 3.”

Produced for over $100 million, “Gatsby” was initially scheduled to open over Christmas before WB pushed back its release.

Warners insiders had the adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel pegged for a domestic cume of $100 million but the PG-13 pic should exceed that figure, according to early tallies.

The Great Gatsby,” shot in Australia, opens the Cannes Film Festival next week.
