Sundance: Radius-TWC reaches ‘Stardom’

Doc follows backup singers for musical icons

Radius-TWC topper Tom Quinn has confirmed that the company is acquiring Morgan Neville’s Sundance documentary “Twenty Feet From Stardom.”

The deal, believed to be for low seven figures, is for all North American rights, and a theatrical release is planned for summer in addition to VOD.

Documentary follows the important role backup singers play in the music business and features interviews with such industry icons such as the Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Sting, Stevie Wonder, Bette Midler, Sheryl Crow and more.

Pic, which premiered last night at the Eccles as part of Sundance’s U.S. Documentary Competition lineup, was well-received, including a post-screening Q&A that saw several backup singers featured in the film burst out into song.

Josh Braun’s Submarine Entertainment negotiated the deal on behalf of the filmmakers.
