Docu presells to Sweden, Netherlands, Canada, Italy

Submarine Entertainment has come on board John Maloof and Charles Siskel’s “Finding Vivian Maier,” a documentary about the street photographer.

Submarine has concluded presales at Berlin to SVT (Swedish TV), AVRO (Dutch TV), Swiss TV, all rights in Canada to Films We Like, and all rights in Italy to Feltrinelli Films.

Submarine will announce a domestic partner shortly and the film will be ready later this year for release.

Maier’s photos were largely unknown until Maloof, a Chicago historian, uncovered thousands of negatives at a storage locker auction, leading to her work receiving widespread critical acclaim.

In the doc, the filmmakers track down parents who hired her as a nanny in the suburbs of Chicago, the children she cared for, store owners, movie theater operators and curious neighbors who remember her.

Maloof and Siskel directed and produced. Maloff established the Maloof Collection in 2008 with the purpose of preserving and making publicly available the work of Maier. Jeff Garlin (“Curb Your Enthusiasm”) exec produces the film.

The deals were negotiated by David Koh, Dan & Josh Braun of Submarine Entertainment on behalf of with Hjalmar Palmgren of SVT, Marijke Huijbregts of AVRO, Anita Huigi of Swiss TV, Ron Mann of Films We Like, and Anastasia Plazzotta of Feltrinelli.
