Distrib nabs Argentine laffer "2+2"
Strand Releasing has acquired U.S and Canadian theatrical rights to Diego Kaplan’s swinging comedy “2 +2,” produced by the Disney co-owned Patagonik in Argentina and the biggest hit in 2012 for the Mouse House’s local distribution arm.
Strand will release “2 + 2″ in April, said Guido Rud at FilmSharks Intl., which handles “2 + 2″ sales rights. Strand’s Jon Gerrans and Rud closed the deal. HBO has also snapped up both U.S. pay TV and subscription VOD rights, aiming for a December release. Pic has also begun international sales with Wiesner Distribution taking Puerto Rico and Amazonia nabbing Venezuela. The U.S. deals marks further success for Kaplan’s partner-swapping comedy, set in Argentina’s middle-class and starring and co-produced by Adrian Suar, Argentina’s biggest marquee draw for middle-brow, accessible comedies. Pic grossed a standout $5.9 million in Argentina, making it the highest-grossing Argentine movie of 2012.
