Reality shows, sitcoms helped fuel 48% jump in filming

TV has continued to drive Los Angeles location shooting so far this year with TNT’s “Southland” leading the way.

“Southland,” proiduced by Warner Bros. TV, totalled 35 days of permitted shoots last week, according to figures released Tuseday by permitting agency FilmL.A. It was the fourth week in a row that the LAPD procedural had led TV location shooting following weeks of 40 days, 30 days and 33 days. The series has recently filmed at a restaurant on South Central Avenue., at a cemetery on West Washington Boulevard and at a police station in Westlake.

Overall locating shooting last week totalled a relatively robust 780 days with a 47% hike from the year-ago period in the mainstay TV side thanks to reality shooting, sitcoms, dramas and webisodes. Pilots edged down slightly from the year-ago period.

Features rebounded from a sluggish pace a year ago, totalling 150 days last week and led by 10 days for “The Angriest Man in Brooklyn.”
