Pic will feature 20 extra minutes and four new songs
Despite a sizable 74% three-day drop for “One Direction: This Is Us,” Sony is releasing an extended cut of the music docu on Friday that will feature 20 minutes of extra footage, including four additional songs.
“This Is Us” just completed its second weekend at the domestic box office, grossing a revised $4 million, for a Stateside cume of $23.9 million. Pic’s totaled just shy of $50 million worldwide.
That said, “This Is Us” suffered a much steeper soph-sesh drop than past concert docs, including the Justin Bieber pic, which fell just 55% during its second frame in 2011. Sony’s 2009 Michael Jackson swansong “This Is It” dropped off even less, down 43% in its sophomore outing.
Regardless, “This Is Us” already is a financial hit for Sony: The film cost just $10 million to produce and represents an interesting cross-divisional project between Sony Pictures and Sony Music, which represents the Brit-pop boy band.
At 92 minutes originally, the extended feature now clocks in at nearly two hours long.
