'Beasts of the Southern Wild' thesp to star in Overbrook reboot.
Sony Pictures Entertainment announced this morning that “Beasts of the Southern Wild” star Quvenzhane Wallis will star in their adaptation of “Annie.”
“She is an extraordinary young talent with an amazing range, not only as an actress but as a singer and dancer,” said studio production prexy Hannah Minghella. “We can’t wait for audiences to further discover her.”Wallis is nominated for best actress in this evening’s 85th annual Academy Awards for her perf as Hushpuppy in “Beasts.”
“Friends With Benefits” helmer Will Gluck attached to direct, with producers including James Lassiter, Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith through Overbrook Entertainment, and Jay-Z and Tyran Smith through Marcy Media.
Wallis is next slated to appear in Steve McQueen’s “Twelve Years a Slave” starring Brad Pitt and Michael Fassbender.
