World War II actioner set to shoot in September

Sony has acquired domestic and many international rights to David Ayer’s World War II actioner “Fury” with Brad Pitt starring.

QED Intl. is producing with John Lesher’s Le Grisbi Prods. and Ethan Smith. Alex Ott is co-producing.

Pitt will play the commander of a Sherman tank and its five-man crew on a mission behind enemy lines. Story is set in April 1945 as Nazi Germany collapses.

Lensing is set to begin in September with a Nov. 14, 2014, release date set.

“We loved this script from the moment we read it,” said Columbia Picturse president Doug Belgrad in a statement. “This is epic and authentic storytelling at its finest and we couldn’t be more excited to be in business with David Ayer and Brad Pitt on this incredible story of sacrifice and heroism.”

QED Intl. bought Ayer’s spec script in February. Block began ramping up production after Media Content Capital announced in May that it taken a substantial stake in QED.

QED and the studio previously partnered on “District 9.”  Ayer and QED teamed on action thriller “Ten,” starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sam Worthington and Mireille Enos and set for release from Open Road Films in January. Ayer teamed with Lesher on “End of Watch.”

Pitt will be seen next in Paramount’s “World War Z,” opening June 19.

Josh Grode and Noel Lohr represented QED in the transaction.
