Suites-and-parties scene a shoulder-to-shoulder affair
With sunshine and mild temps on its side, Sundance’s suites-and-parties scene has been a shoulder-to-shoulder affair this year, which means rubbing up against stars more often than not.Not all gifting lounges are focused solely on swag: A trend in corporate-sponsored spaces is interactive brand experiences for talent and tastemakers. Julianne Moore and Daniel Radcliffe stopped by the Miami Lounge, where Chi tattoo artist Jason Hoodrich inked those who really wanted to make their Sundance Film Fest one to remember. Oakley’s Learn to Ride lounge, a five-year veteran at Sundance, invited guests to sign up for a snowboard lesson with Oakley’s professional athletes, including two-time Olympic silver medalist Danny Kass. Celebrity chefs are back in force: Teaming with the Stella Artois Cafe, Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo, chef-owners of Animal and Son of a Gun in Los Angeles, offered breakfast and lunch to invite-only guests at the Lift. At the Pax Cabin Off Main, Michael Cera and other invitees were picked up and taken to a private location to dine on the creations of “Top Chef” Ilan Hall. Nikki Beach nightclub came to Sundance for the first time to take over the rooftop patio at the Sky Lodge Hotel. The Westway nightclub, where Gael Garcia Bernal jammed with the band on Thursday night, and Nur Khan’s pop-up of his downtown New York nightclub showed a return of the New York scene. Among the many afterparties, BMF Media Group celebrated Jennifer Beal and Alfred Molina’s latest, “Emanuel and the Truth about Fishes,” with a get-together at the Westway on Friday that brought out the costars as well as writer-director Francesca Gregorini and her mom, Barbara Bach, and stepdad, Ringo Starr. And while nearly every early-fest film grabbed a Main Street space to celebrate premieres, brands and companies — including CAA, UTA and WME on the same night — further stacked the Park City main drag with building-by-building bashes.
