Comedy will bow in Aug. 2014

Sony has moved fast, placing its comedy “Sex Tape,” starring Jason Segel and Cameron Diaz, into the Aug. 1, 2014 date vacated today by “50 Shades of Grey.”

Universal and Focus announced today they are moving “50 Shades” to Valentine’s Day weekend 2015.

“Sex Tape” was originally set to bow on July 18, but sources say the move of “50 Shades” — coupled with the fact that comedies like “We’re the Millers” play so well in the early August area — prompted the move.

Jake Kasdan is directing the comedy about a married couple who wake up to discover that the sex tape they made the evening before has gone missing, leading to a frantic search for its whereabouts.

In addition, Sony has also announced that the Jerry Bruckheimer-Screen Gems horror pic “Beware the Night” will move to July 2, 2014, following the success of New Line’s “The Conjuring.”
