Mexican director Fernando Eimbcke (“Duck Season,” “Lake Tahoe”), producer Christian Valdelievre and sales agent Funny Balloons are re-teaming on “Club Sandwich.”
Valdelievre and Jaime Ramos are producing out of the Cine Pantera shingle; Peter Danner’s Paris-based Funny Balloons has acquired international sales rights and will be serving “Sandwich” on to the market menu at Berlin.
“Club Sandwich” has just gone into post-production. Written by Eimbcke, it is a coming-of-age story turning on a still-young mother who takes her 15-year-old son to an off-season holiday resort in Mexico. Shot in 35mm, “Club Sandwich” will be ready for delivery by late summer, Danner said.
Funny Balloons also repped sales on Eimbcke’s 2004 “Duck Season,” which helped signal the emergence of Mexico’s new generation of filmmakers, and the follow-up “Lake Tahoe,” which screened in competition at 2008’s Berlinale, winning the Fipresci award and Alfred Bauer Prize.
