Pic finds buyers worldwide
Til Schweiger’s “Guardians” has found eager buyers worldwide, with deals closed in Europe, Asia and Latin America.Schweiger directed and stars in the action thriller, which has sold to Free Dolphin in France, Interfilm in Japan, Apex in South Korea, New View Cinema in China and HBO Latin America for Brazil and Spanish-speaking territories. Berlin-based A Company picked up rights early on for Russia, where Schweiger, Germany’s leading star, enjoys major box office clout. “Guardians” centers on a cop and former elite soldier who must keep a teenage orphan, the only witness to a murder, safe from assassins. Cologne-based Action Image, which is handling international sales for the film, has also acquired Michael Arias’ Japanese remake of Thomas Jahn’s hit 1997 Schweiger starrer “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door.” The original film followed two young men suffering from terminal cancer who set off on a wild road trip that becomes deadly when they inadvertently steal a car belonging to a gangster. Penned by Mika Omori from Schweiger and Jahn’s story, the new version stars Tomoya Nagase, Mayuko Fukuda, Keishi Nagatsuka, Koji Okura and Toshihiro Wada.
