CJ Ent is backing retread of French kidnap thriller
BUSAN — CJ Entertainment is to back and release the Korean remake of French thriller “Point Blank.”
The new picture is now being cast and is expected to shoot imminently.
The original “A Bout Pourtant” was directed by Fred Cavayé and released in France by Gaumont Distribution in December 2010. Action focuses on the kidnapping of a heavily pregnant woman and her husband’s against the clock attempt to save her by orchestrating the escape of a murderer. It was released as “Point Blank” in the US, where it grossed $706,000, by Magnolia Pictures in July 2011.
The Korean retread will retain the US title and star popular actor Ryu Seung-ryong (“Miracle In Cell Number 7,” “Masquerade”) as the kidnapper, Cho Yeo-jeong as the mother-to-be and TV star Lee Jin-wook as her male nurse/doctor husband.
Juhn Jai-hong, director of “Poongsan” will direct the Korean retread which is produced by Syd Lim at Barunson and Young Films, whose track record include such critically-acclaimed pictures as Kim Jee-woon’s comedy adventure “The Good, the Bad, the Weird,” Bong Joon-ho’s mystery thriller “Mother” and Kim Dae-woo’s drama “The Servant.”
The UK’s Working Title Films last year also announced an English-language remake.
